Earwax plays a very important role in protecting the functions of your ear canal. It is a naturally occurring waxy substance that can be thick or thin, depending on where it is deposited and how long it has been there. Inside the ear canal, it is produced to protect the delicate, thin skin that lines the ear canal and passages, preventing bacteria and dirt from entering and potentially causing infections.
Even if you try to remove earwax from the pinna regularly, it can build up in the ear canal and cause a natural blockage. Earwax can also accumulate in the ear if you use hearing aids or push-in-ear headphones, such as those that come with many mobile phones.
